One of the things that has delighted me the most since having chickens is to discover that they purr. I didn’t know that until a few years ago. “Happy” our beloved super hero chook that has survived attacks from a fox and dog gets lots of chats and cuddles from me as I have nursed her back to health a few times. We have even shared a bedroom at times! When I close the shed door after they have had their adventures in the garden during the day, I say goodnight to the girls and say goodnight to Happy by happy name and she responds from her perch with a purr. The chooks also purr when really for some food scraps, while being cuddled and dustbathing. Here’s some photos from some purring happy chooks yesterday.
