The Laminated Series: Play Mats

Working in a hospital,  some options of play materials are not available due to infection control. Using fabric playmats is one of them so this was my alternative. Play mats on cardboard decorated with paint and paper and laminated so they can be wiped down. I’ve made them using A1 and A2 sized thin cardboard. Although laminated I try to include a sense of texture by tearing up tissue paper, blobbing paint, gluing fine dirt, painting using fingers and handprints.

These are ideal playmats for hospital, kindergarten, child care, home… They are just as much fun to make as they are to play with, and adapt for all different kinds of scenes such as farm, bird life, sea life, australian animals, desert, the three billy goats gruff, dinosaurs… an endless list 🙂 They also have the added bonus of being inexpensive to make.

There are many baby play mats and baby play gyms that are being sold online or at stores. One just need to note some things when choosing the best one for your baby.
